A fierce Maoist known as Vargesh with a bounty of ₹3.50 lakh surrendered in Gondia district of Maharashtra after becoming disillusioned with the armed movement. The 26-year-old operative, formally associated with the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist), admitted to multiple incidents of violent activity but said the exploitation and internal corruption within the organisation finally drove him to give up arms. His surrender, in presence of district officials, also signals the impact of the state’s surrender-and-rehabilitation efforts.

Terror-attack plot foiled as three suspected terrorists were arrested in Gujarat, thwarting a major strike planned across India.
